The Transat

The Mini Transat 6.50 is one of the most prestigious of international offshore sailboat races.   It is an extreme proving ground not just for new skippers looking to make a name for themselves but also for fully professional sailors looking for a new personal challenge.

In 2011, Mini Transat USA 574 skippered by Emma Creighton will race 4200 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from France to Brazil, with only one stop-over in Madiera.

Time and Location: Start- September 13th, 2011, La Rochelle, France
Finish- October, 2011, Salvador de Bahia, Brazil

Timing: The race is held once every two years, since 1977

Race Course: From France, 1,100 miles across the Bay of Biscay down the coast of Portugal to Madiera.  Following a stop-over, the race continues 3,100 miles past the Canary Islands, across the doldrums to Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.
